The Scoop: The Pump Room has few awards, but the ones it calls its own are nationally recognized. Since it was opened to the public in 1938, Chicago socialites have wined and dined here. By 1950 the Pump Room had a reputation for stargazing. Liza Minelli grew up in booth 1 and frequented often with her mother Judy Garland, who wrote the song "we'll eat at The Pump Room/Ambassador East, to say the least." In reference to this historic Chicago restaurant.
